📖 Reading Text: The Impact of Digital Literacy on Modern Education
Digital literacy has become an essential skill in the 21st century, especially in the field of education. It refers to the ability to find, evaluate, and communicate information using digital platforms. Many schools in Indonesia have integrated digital literacy into their curriculum to prepare students for the global era.
Last semester, my school implemented a new program called "Digital Smart Class". In this program, students were taught how to use educational apps, recognize credible sources, and avoid cyberbullying. I still remember the first day of the program. Our teacher, Mrs. Dewi, asked us to open a learning platform called "EduLink". Some students were excited, but others were confused because they had never used such technology before. However, after a few sessions, almost everyone could navigate the platform easily.
A recent report from the Ministry of Education shows that schools with digital literacy programs have seen a 25% increase in students' critical thinking skills. The report also highlights that students who are digitally literate tend to be more independent and responsible for their own learning.
Nevertheless, some experts argue that digital literacy should not replace traditional reading and writing skills. They believe that over-reliance on technology may reduce students' ability to focus on long texts. On the other hand, proponents claim that digital literacy enhances creativity and collaboration. A balanced approach is therefore necessary to maximize benefits while minimizing risks.
In my opinion, digital literacy is a powerful tool, but it must be taught alongside ethics and critical thinking. Without proper guidance, students might misuse technology for cheating or spreading false information. Therefore, teachers play a key role in shaping responsible digital citizens.
