As a country with some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and marine biodiversity, Indonesia must take urgent action to reduce plastic waste, particularly in oceans and rivers. Failure to do so will lead to severe ecological and economic consequences. Firstly, plastic waste has a devastating impact on marine life. Millions of tons of plastic end up in Indonesia’s waters each year, endangering fish, turtles, and seabirds that mistake plastic for food. Many animals die from ingestion or entanglement, disrupting entire ecosystems. Coral reefs, which attract divers from around the world, are also at risk, as plastic waste can smother and poison them. However, this digital landscape is also filled with dangers, most notably the rapid spread of hoaxes or fake news. Therefore, developing strong digital literacy skills is no longer just beneficial, but absolutely essential for students to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.   Firstly, the speed and ease with which misinformation can spread on platforms popular among youth, like WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok, make students particularly vulnerable.
