Freshwater Fish Nursing: Step-by-Step Instructions

Essential Procedures for Healthy Fish Development

Introduction: Nursing is a critical phase in freshwater fish farming. It involves preparing the environment, transferring young fish (fry or fingerlings), feeding them properly, and maintaining water quality to ensure healthy growth. Each step must be followed carefully to reduce stress and improve survival rates.

๐Ÿงช Step-by-Step Nursing Procedure

1Prepare the Water Environment

First, the pond or tank must be cleaned and filled with fresh water. Aeration systems should be installed to ensure oxygen circulation. Water temperature and pH levels must be checked before stocking.

2Transfer the Fish

Then, the fry are transferred gently into the nursing pond. Fish must be acclimated to the water temperature to avoid shock. The transfer process should be done slowly to reduce stress.

3Feed the Fish

After that, fish must be fed with high-protein starter feed. Feeding should be done 3–4 times a day in small portions. Uneaten feed must be removed to prevent water pollution.

4Monitor and Maintain Water Quality

Finally, water quality must be monitored daily. Ammonia and nitrate levels should be kept low. Dead fish and waste materials must be removed regularly.
